See more projectsThis log home in Sarona, Wisconsin had some significant rot on a large log underneath a bank of windows about 12 feet above ground. This was a tricky place to work on because of its close proximity to windows and its elevation, not to mention the fact that it was a huge expanse of log needing replacement. Over the years, Edmunds & Company has developed the skills to do this type of challenging work. We also have invested in the necessary equipment, such as a boom truck, to be able to handle replacing just about any log anywhere on a log home.

One contributing factor to why this log rotted in the first place was the fact that it had large cracks or checks in the log on the up-facing side of the log. This allowed water to get into the log when it rained and travel beyond the crack, bringing unwanted moisture into the interior of the log. These types of checks should be filled with a latex caulking to minimize the water's ability to do damage. See more about cracks in logs. We use dried cedar for our replacement logs. Because of its inherent resistance to rot, we provide a guarantee against future rot on logs that we replace. Check out our warranty! Watch our video on replacing logs.
